I arrived on the Friday for testing, but had a a fairly large shunt
at Graham Hill bend in the wet. It caused the session to be stopped, as the car
was embedded in the barriers and not in a safe location. Damage occurred to the
nose cone, both front wings, rear wing, all the offside wishbones, pushrods,
uprights etc, sidepod, radiator and more. There was no chance of re-building the
car for the race on Sunday, so Dermot managed to arrange a leased Formula
Vauxhall Lotus. On
Saturday, I drove from Brands Hatch to Derbyshire to pick up a Formula Vauxhall Lotus
from Richard Purcell, then back, a round trip of 550 miles and took 17 hours.

Qualifying
In
the session, I spent most of the session getting to know the circuit and the
car, so did not set a particularly fast time, with a 52.13 sec lap. This put me
20th on the grid of 22 cars, 4.6 secs off pole. A mere 1 second improvement
would have seen me 6 places higher!
